SHOTGUN

Contact Ken Rowland at 362-0142 or e-mail krowland19@comcast.net for more information.

The shotgun range is located in the Northeast part of the Del Norte Gun Club. Enter the main gate and proceed past the Club House to the "T" intersection, turn right (East) and proceed until you cross the concrete low-flow crossing, turn left and follow the road keeping to the right to the top of the hill. There you will find the Shotgun Club House and parking lot. The Sporting Clay Course is directly in front of you heading East, the trap and skeet field is directly North of the club house, and the 5-stand course is due West of the skeet high house. NOTE: The club house at the Shot Gun facilities is only open on the weekend of a scheduled shoot. Watch for up coming events.
IMPORTANT NOTE: ONLY 7 ½ TO # 9 SHOT IS ALLOWED ON THE RANGE ABSOULTLY NO BUCKSHOT, SHOTGUN SLUGS, OR SHOT SIZE LARGER THAN 7 ½, THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD. PLEASE ABIDE BY THE RULES. THANK YOU

The shotgun area has a patterning board located on the West side of the low skeet house, this board is of ¼" plate steel with a center hole, to use this board you must paint the area with white spray paint then back up to the desired distance which there are markers on the ground at 10 yards intervals to 40 yards. You can only use 7 ½ to # 9 shot, using buckshot and shotgun slugs will damage the plate and you will be responsible for replacement.

The Sporting clay Course is a 12 station course and will expand to a 24 station course in the near future making Del Norte Gun a premier Shotgun facilities. The Sporting Clay range can be accessed by any member of the club 7 days per week except sundown Tuesday until 12:00 noon on Wednesday the entire gun club is shut down for maintenance during this time. Any member can pre-purchase a blue key with a determined amount of targets loaded on the key. With this key you can access the course and shoot from any and all of the 12 stations on the Sporting Clay Range. (This is for Members and their guest only). There are a couple of rules you need to know and abide by.

You may only fire your shotgun from the shooting cage located at each station, you must always carry your gun unloaded with the barrel pointed up on automatics and pumps and the breach open on all over and under guns. Not following the rules above will result in your removal from the gun club and could result in losing you membership.

Before a scheduled event you may call 505-550-5447 or send and e-mail to S_clays_sign-up@hotmail.com to pre-register for the shoot, this is a club e-mail and the only way to pre register for the upcomming event, by doing so you help us out in scheduling the squads and getting the scheduled event underway on time. You are also guarantying yourself and other members of your squad a position on the same shooting station through out the event. Please pre-register whenever possible.

** Please note that these two shoot dates are the 3rd weekend of each month. In May the Whittington Range located in Raton will have a special Sporting Clay event. In August the New Mexico State Shoot will be held at Whittington the 2nd weekend of the month. All other shoot dates are the 2nd Saturday of each month.

We also have a Skeet and Trap field that is open to the public during a scheduled Sporting Clay shoot, it is also open to all members of the Del Norte Gun Club during the hours of operation by using a pre-purchased Red key (See Long Range Smart Key Information).
This course is an overlay course therefore we are limiting the use to either Skeet or Trap.
The cost of this discipline is $5.00 per 25 targets.

The 5-Stand is located to the West of the skeet field and is only in operation during a scheduled Sporting Clay shoot, registered targets may be shot in 50 bird increments for a cost of $15 .00 during the shoot. It is our hopes to have the 5-Stand incorporated into the Long Range Key System this summer. We had originally hoped to have accomplished this before now, but we are now planning for this summer.

The Long Range Smart Key system is in place, both on the Sporting Clay Range (12 Stations only) and the Trap and Skeet Field. We hope to have the addition of the Long Range system up and running on the 5 stand by the summer of 2010.
The Long Range System consists of two types of Smart Keys one being blue in color and used on the Sporting Clay Range only. The Blue Key can be pre-loaded with clay targets up to 2000 targets which would include a 7% overage for broken targets. You may pre-purchase these targets (see below for pricing) from anyone of the listed members below or you can purchase them from Ken Rowland @ 362-0142 or krowland19@comcast.net.

The Trap and Skeet field and the 5-Stand in the future will all use a Red Smart Key. Using the Red Key you will pre-purchase targets in increments of 25 per round up to 60 rounds every time you insert the key in the controller and push the button the system will down load 25 targets from your key to the controller (plus a pre-determined amount for breakage that is added to the count) If you are so kind as to furnish targets for your guest then you have to remove the key and reinsert and push the button again this will again down load 25 targets from your key, you can repeat this process as often as required for you and your party or you can pre-load the controller with as many targets as you are planning on shooting and each time the button is pushed on the pull cord a target is removed from the credits on the controller. DO NOT HESITATE TO ASK ONE OF THE RANGE PERSONNEL FOR ASSISTANCE IN DEMONSTRATING THE SYSTEM OR ANY OTHER ISSUES OR QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE IN REGARDS TO THE FACILITY.

The Blue Key for the Sporting Clay course is a little different than the Red Key with the Blue Key you can pre-purchase targets in units up to 2000. When you reach a station you want to shoot at you have to first push one of the buttons on the pull cord, this wakes up the unit, you should see a lighted display in the window of the controller, at this point you insert your Blue Key. Once this is done you are ready to shoot, when you push the left button your target will come from that target thrower then the right button, the target again is thrown from another target thrower if you push the lower yellow button, you will release a true pair of targets one target from each target thrower. Again each time you push the button for a single target the system removes one target from your credit, if you push the bottom button the system removes two targets from your credit. You may shoot as many targets as you want from this station up to your key limit or move down to the next station and repeat the same procedure. If more than one of you are shooting in your squad you may remove your key when done shooting and the next person would insert his key to start shooting.

Blue Key for the Sporting Clay $25.00 per hundred targets
Red Key for Trap, Skeet $5.00 per round of 25 targets

Note: There is a one time only $10.00 Key Deposit added to first time purchases of any of the above keys.

To purchase additional targets for an existing key please see me at the registered shoots (see above dates) or call me and I can make arrangements to meet you either at my residences or yours. Ken @ 505-362-0142 krowland19@comcast.net

  2. All Motorized vehicles are to adhere to a 5 mile per hour speed limit while on the Shot Gun Range.
  3. All Motorized vehicles waiting at a station or shooting at a station are to park opposite the shooting station on the road or path way EXAMPLE: if the shooting cage is on the left side of the course then park on the right side of the right of way (NO EXCEPTION)
  4. If you are shooting at a station that just has a walking path to it do not take your motorized vehicle down the path, park it well out of the way and walk the last few feet, (Exception: If you are handicapped we will accommodate you the best way we can in getting you as close to the station as possible if not in the station)
  5. Please use the Porta Potty's on the course there are women and children and most adult males that do not want to see you relieving yourself behind a tree or in the open. Please be professional.
  6. Excessive loud behavior, swearing etc. could get you removed from the range so please be an adult and control your behavior. There have been several complaints in regards to this in the past.
  7. Pick up your trash and discard in the appropriate containers on the course and at the club house.
  8. All shooters please pick up your hulls and disperse in the buckets or garbage cans, this is an all volunteer club and they do not like cleaning up after others and rightfully so.
