Thank you for your interest in the Del Norte Gun Club and IDPA. Our group is known as the Del Norte Defensive Pistol Shooters. We shoot on the third Sunday of the month at 9am. If you would like to be added to our e-mail list, you can contact Jerry Weesner at BigACP@cableone.net or call me at 505-977-0812. I send out a reminder a few days before the match via e-mail as well as other information from time to time.

Some of the things you'll learn and skills you'll develop are:

• Range commands and procedures
• Safe gun handling
• Proper loading and unloading
• Fundamentals of sight picture, sight alignment and trigger control
• Shooting strong hand, weak hand
• Reloading techniques
• Moving with your gun and shooting while moving
• All types of shooting positions
• Shooting from a concealed or protected position
• Presenting from a concealed holster
• Clearing malfunctions

We hold Rules Clinics and Shooting Clinics from time to time to help new shooters and I'm always happy to make arrangements to work with you one on one.

Our goals are that of IDPA which are to:

• Promote safe and proficient use of guns and equipment suitable for self-defense use.
• Provide a level playing field for all competitors to test the skill and ability of the individual, not their equipment or gamesmanship.
• Provide separate divisions for equipment and classifications for shooters, such that guns with similar characteristics are grouped together and people with similar skills compete only against each other.
• Provide shooters with practical and realistic courses of fire that simulate a potentially life-threatening encounter or that tests skills that would be required to survive a life-threatening encounter.
• Offer a practical shooting sport that is responsive to the shooters and sponsors, with unprecedented stability of equipment rules.
• Offer a practical shooting sport that allows the competitors to concentrate on the development of their shooting skills and fellowship with other likeminded shooters.

To compete in an IDPA event you will need:

1. Pistol or revolver
2. Strong-side hip holster
3. Magazines, speedloaders or moonclips
4. Magazine pouch(s), speedloader holdersor or moonclip holders depending on your firearm
5. A good heavy duty belt
6. Concealment garment of some sort (vest, jacket, shirt, etc.
7. Ammunition

Of course all of these items must meet the requirements of IDPA. You can download the rule book from www.idpa.com under "About IDPA" and "rule book"

Some other items come highly recommended as well such as a hat, sunscreen, range bag, food, water....etc. Don't forget the basics.
